My friend’s childcare was learing about different helpers this week. They ahd already had visits form a lawyer Mum and a police officer Dad. She asked me to come along as a anathestic nurse so I could tell them about what it is like to have an operation. Often children’s surgery or even a trip to the hospital is unexpected and can be quite a frightening experience for them.
To ease them into the discussion, I let the children try on my scrub hats and we practided our going to sleep breathing by blowing bubbles.
